TWIC -Transportation Workers Identification Card

As you may already be aware, our Federal Government is implementing a safety and security program referred to as the Transportation Worker Identification Card or TWIC. Working through the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration and the Coast Guard, the TWIC card will be a required credential for all outside contractors and their employees performing contracting work at designated sensitive facilities in New Jersey. The credentialing process involves individuals submitting to identification verification and a background screening. DHS is asking that individuals bear the cost of the card, approximately $140.00, in a process managed by their third-party administrator, Lockheed Martin.

In order to keep New Jersey Union Contractors, who hire New Jersey Union Carpenters, competitive in the workplace, the NJ Carpenter Contractor Trust (NJCCT) is offering a program that will pay for the cost of the TWIC Card.

In conjunction with the NJ Regional Council of Carpenters, Building Contractors Association of NJ, Associated General Contractors of NJ, and the Drywall Interior System Contractors of NJ, the program is being offered immediately and on a basis of need.

At this time we ask that you contact the NJCCT offices in order to learn more about this important job-site initiative. You can access the TWIC website at www.tsa.gov/twic to learn if your worksite will be impacted by this program and for the facility deadline requirements.

Your timely response to this matter may be critical to your current or next job.
